DIY Coffee Cozy VIDEO TUTORIAL

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1:

Download and print the pattern at 100% (no scaling). Trim the excess paper around the pattern and put aside.

STEP 2:

You need to cut 2 mirrored pieces of fabric – one outer and one lining. To do so, layer your fabrics: place the lining fabric with WRONG side up. On top – place the outer fabric with RIGHT side up. Place the coffee cup cozy template on top and cut around the template.

STEP 3:

It’s time to cut the batting – to reduce the bulk on this coffee sleeve, the batting needs to be smaller than the fabrics.

Trim down the seam allowance on the paper pattern and use this pattern piece to cut your batting.

STEP 4:

Fuse the batting to the back of the outer fabric.

  • If you are using a fusible batting: place the batting with glue side down on top of the wrong side of the outer piece, press with your iron
  • If using sew-in batting: use basting spray on the batting and attach it to the wrong side of the outer piece.

STEP 5:

Cut 1 piece of hooks and loops tape according to the pattern. The loops side goes on the lining and the hooks side if for the outer.

Use your paper pattern to determine the correct placement. Put the paper pattern right side up on the outer piece of fabric to determine the placement of the hooks tape. Pin in place.

Turn the paper pattern face down and place it on the lining piece to determine the placement of the loops tape. Pin it in place.

STEP 6:

Stitch around the hooks and loops tape.

STEP 7:

Place the outer piece on top of the lining piece, right sides facing each outer. Pin leaving and opening on the bottom long side.

STEP 8:

Stitch around the coffee cup cozy using a 6mm (1/4″) seam allowance.

STEP 9:

Trim the corners and clip the curves.

Fingerpress in the raw edges of the gap to be flush with the seam allowance.

STEP 10:

Turn the coffee cozy right side out.

Press with your iron and pin the gap.

STEP 11:

Topstitch all around the coffee cozy as close to the edge as possible.

Your reverible coffee cosy is now finished. The outer side looks like this:

And the back side looks like this. The coffee cup sleeve is reversible – so you can use your favorite fabric scraps for both sides!

All you need to do now is to wrap it around your to-go coffee cup and enjoy your coffee.
