INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1:

Cut a piece of woven cotton fabric. You need one piece 40 x 10cm (16 x 4″) for the standard strap gripper.

If you want it a bit longer, add 2 inches (5cm) to the length.

Prepare a half D-ring and a lobster clip, both 2.5cm (1″) wide. Test to make sure the lobster clip can pass through the half D-ring.

STEP 2:

Fold the fabric right sides together and press.

STEP 3:

Stitch along the long raw edge with a 6mm (1/4″) seam allowance. Backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam.

STEP 4:

Press the seam allowance open, making sure the seam is in the middle of the back.

STEP 5:

Turn the tube around. Use either a tube turner, a bodkin or a simple safety pin.

STEP 6:

Press the whole tube, making sure the seam is still at the middle.

STEP 7:

Place the tube with the seam facing UP. Press each short raw edge 6mm (1/4″) towards the wrong side.

STEP 8:

Insert the D-ring on one side. Fold the short raw edge to cover the D-ring and pin.

STEP 9:

Insert the lobster clip on the other side. Fold the short raw edge to cover the metal and pin.

STEP 10:

Using a zipper foot stitch down both short sides, backstitching at the beginning and the end. Clip your threads and the strap jacket gripper is ready for some action!
