“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” Remember that Christmas song? Just in time we have a free Christmas tree template to print and make your own 3D tree decoration to add to the wonder. You can increase or reduce the pattern size on a photocopier if you want to make larger or smaller trees. Add baubles, bells, bows or stars to the ends of the branches for a little more pizzazz if you like, but the variety of Christmas prints used on this tree, are pretty cool just as they are. Although, a small battery-operated string of fairy lights draped on it would make this 3D Christmas tree extra special.
Let the Christmas spirit shine with these trees in Christmas prints to brighten up the smaller spots in your home and workplace – like your desk, bathroom, bedrooms, dining table, and entrance hall table. Print out the free template, sew it up and in no time you’ll have great decorations

3D Fabric Christmas Tree VIDEO TUTORIAL
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1:
Print out the free template for the tree and cut out the shape.
STEP 2:
Start cutting out your 6 pieces using a rotary cutter and self-healing cutting mat. If the fabric is a little small you can join two pieces down the middle.
Lay the fabric out right side to right side if joining, then fold the template in half down the length of the tree and place the fold 1/4 of an inch (6mm) from the edge and use your fabric marking pen to mark a line next to the fold – this will be your stitch line later when joining. Cut around the edge of the template as usual.
STEP 3:
If using two pieces for one tree pattern then join the halves first by stitching along the marked line. Once you have 6 whole pieces place the right sides to right sides so you have three paired tree shapes. Clip each pair together.
STEP 4:
Use your pattern to mark the gaps at the base of the tree on each set – there are two gaps – one on each side of the center.
STEP 5:
Stitch around each piece with a seam allowance of ¼ inch (6mm), making sure you leave the two gaps open at the base.
STEP 6:
Trim off the pointed bits at the ends of the tree branches to reduce bulk when turning but be sure not to clip too close to the stitch line.
STEP 7:
Snip a little into the angles below the tree branches so the fabric doesn’t pull awkwardly once turned.
Snip little nicks into the curved area at the base but DO NOT snip into the area where the gaps are.
STEP 8:
Turn the raw fabric edges of the gaps up in line with the seam and finger press in place.
STEP 9:
Turn each of the three pieces the right way out using a turning tool to neatly press out the ends of the tree branches, make sure the raw edges are turned in and give each piece a press with your iron.
STEP 10:
Fold each piece in half along the length and mark the middle of the top and bottom of the tree with a pin.
STEP 11:
Layer the three pieces on top of each other, lining up the pins then clip or pin the three pieces together, leaving pins in the top layer to mark the center of top and base of the tree.
STEP 12:
Using a ruler draw a line with your fabric marking pen from the top of the tree to the base. This will indicate your stitch line.
STEP 13:
Stitch from the top to the base, backtacking at the start and finish.
STEP 14:
Start stuffing the tree with small amounts of Polyfill at a time – working from the top to the base, then moving to the next section.
STEP 15:
Once all the section are filled, pin the gaps closed. Use a hand sewing needle and thread to stitch each section closed, so the stitches are hardly visible. For some reason people always look underneath items, so make sure it’s neat.
The tree is ready to use as decoration for your house or to gift and brighten someone else’s festive season. If you want you can add little bells on the ends of the branches, tiny bows or stars – whatever takes your fancy. Like and subscribe if you love Christmas crafts like I do!
