Fabric Eyeglasses Stand VIDEO TUTORIAL
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1:
Download and print the pattern at 100 % (no scaling). Trim the excess paper ourside of the black line.
STEP 2:
Place the main and lining fabric right sides together, pin and cut them out according to the pattern.
STEP 3:
Trim down the paper pattern to the dashed line and cut your fusible fleece or fusible stabilizer according to it.
STEP 4:
Place the main fabric piece on your worktop with the wrong side facing up. Place the fusible stabilizer on top of it, glue side facing down.
Press to fuse according to the manufacturer instructions.
STEP 5:
Place main and lining pieces right sides together and pin.
STEP 6:
Stitch around leaving a gap for turning on one side.
Stitch right ouside the stabilizer (this is 6mm or 1/4″ seam allowance)
STEP 7:
Use pinking shears to trim down the seam allowance OR make notches all around to help the fabrics lay flat. DO NOT trim down the seam allowance of the gap.
STEP 8:
Turn the fabric glasses stand around and push out the seam.
TIP: The easiest way to do this is to either use hemostats or a straw and a chopstick.
STEP 9:
Fold in the raw edge of the gap along the seam allowance and press.
STEP 10:
It’s time to sew the gap closed. You can either do this by hand using a ladder stitch (the cleanest finish) OR topstitch all around the fabric glasses stand.
STEP 11:
Take the trimmed pattern and mark where the snaps will go using a fabric marker.
STEP 12:
Install metal snaps. I recommend using Kam snaps. You can see a quick video how to do that here:
TIP: You can use Velcro (hook and loop fastener) instead.
STEP 13:
Snap both sides together and the fabric eyeglasses holder is ready!
The best part? It’s reversible – just flip it over and you’ll have a whole new glasses holder. Enjoy!
