Finished size (W x H):
14 x 20 cm (5.5 x 10 inches)
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1:
Download and print the pattern at 100% (no scaling). Tape both pages together and trim the excess paper outside the solid line. You will have 2 pattern pieces – the body and the pocket.
STEP 2:
Cut 2 pieces of lining (plain) fabric for the body.
Cut 2 pieces of fabric (main/pattened and lining/patterned) for the pocket.
STEP 3:
Trim the pattern along the dashed line and cut 1 piece of interfacing for the pocket and one for the body.
STEP 4:
Fuse interfacing to the main fabric for the pocket and to one of the body pieces.
STEP 5:
To make the pocket place the both pocket pieces on your worktop. Place the lining on top of the main pocket piece and pin at the top.
STEP 6:
Sew along the top curve using 6mm (1/4″) seam allowance.
STEP 7:
Make small V-notches in the seam allowance at the top to allow the fabric to lay flat (you can use pinking shears if you prefer).
STEP 8:
Open up and flip the pocket around so the right side of the fabrics is visible.
STEP 9:
Push out the seam allowance and press.
STEP 10:
Stitch around the whole pocket using a 3mm (1/8″) of a seam allowance.
STEP 11:
Place the body pice with the interlining on your worktop with right (pretty) side UP. Place the pocket on top of the body piece, making sure to align the bottom edges. Pin in place.
STEP 12:
Take the other body piece (without interfacing) and place it on top of the body assembly with the right (pretty) sides together. Pin in place.
Mark a 5 cm (2 inch) gap at the bottom
STEP 13:
Stitch around the body using a 6mm (1/4″) seam allowance. Do not sew the gap.
STEP 14:
Make a V-notches at the base of the neck and the base of the ears.
Trim down the seam allowance all around the body. You can use either pinking shears or regular scissors. Do not trim the gap.
STEP 15:
Turn the bunny pocket around. Use a chopstick or another blunt object to help you turn around the ears.
Push out the seams using a chopstick.
STEP 16:
Turn in the raw edges of the gap and pin in place.
STEP 17:
Iron the bunny cutlery pocket flat.
STEP 18:
Stitch all around the utensil pocket as close to the edge as possible. Leave your needle down before you pivot at the points
STEP 19:
Take the paper pocket pattern and place it on top of the pocket. Using a heat erasable pen mark the center of the tail as indicated on the pattern.
STEP 20:
Use a glue gun to glue (or stitch down) a pom pom at the marked position.
Voila! The bunny cutlery pocket is ready!
Now all you need to do is stitch some more bunny pockets to make a full set of 4, 6 or even 12! Remember, the first one is always the slowest as you will be refering the video or the instructions. The second will be much quicker, and the rest – they will be done is a flash!
